About The Platte
The Lower Platte is a gentle flowing river with easy gradual turns. as you head down the river you will come into a small lake called Loon Lake, this lake is part of the Lower Platte river system and it takes approx. 20 minutes to paddle around. Your trip ends on a beautiful sandy beach at Lake Michigan.
The Upper Platte is much faster than the lower Platte River. More oriented towards the experienced canoer. The river on average is between 2-3 feet deep with tight turns, fast current, low hanging branches, and underwater obstacles. This section of the Platte river is exceptionally scenic with limited places to stop along the way. Total trip time is about 3 1/2 hours and ends about 1 mile from The Trading Post on Deadstream Road.
Car Shuttle: On both the Upper Platte and Lower Platte river trips you will follow our shuttle driver in your car to where your trip ends and park. Then simply get into our shuttle van and the driver will take you to the starting point of your trip. This all happens within minutes. When you finish your trip your car will be parked waiting for you.
